My name is Christine. This is my beer blog.
Originally started in 2011, this About Us page was updated in late March 2022.
Here's the original About Us content. For the full update read all the way to the bottom.
My friend Dave, seen here to the left, has a seizure disorder, so he can't drive a car. But he can have lunch.
I have no job, so on Fridays I take him out for lunch and beers. Usually every Friday but not always. There have been a few skip overs, and a few non-Fridays.
But for the most part, think "Tuesdays with Morrie," without the sad death part, and with a lot more beer.
Dave is a big beer fan, so we try and go places where a cold one is on draught.
Or a place where a good Half & Half can be pulled.
Dave's philosophy is that he would rather have something on draught instead of a bottle. Bottles sit for a long time... but tapped beer out of the keg or cask is the way to go. So we aim for places with fresh beer, local craft breweries, with extra points if they have a nice lunch.
We live in northeastern Massachusetts, so our haunts have been limited to this corner of Massachusetts and Southern NH.
When the opportunity presents, I do enjoy shenanigans without Dave, but the for all intents and purposes the blog is for me and Dave. Without Dave, there are fewer shenanigans to be honest.
As I mentioned, I am unemployed, or under-employed as some would categorize me.
I was laid off from the tech sector in 2010, and two other times before that.
I've always loved photography and writing, so set the blog up in effort to give Dave a repository of historical record of what we ate, what we drank, and where we were when we did it.
Dave has very poor short term memory due to the seizure disorder, so having this blog I hope will be a gift to him. He will sometimes ask his wife where we went for lunch, but she wasn't there, so this is an effort to give him a log, a gift, of remembering what we drank and where we were.
So far, it has been a gift to me, because while I am also a big fan of beer, I love taking photos and writing about places we visit.
I also love my friendship with Dave, and while my short term memory is better than his, having this blog will help me in the future to remember where we went, what we drank, what we ate, who we met... It is a win win.
We hope you enjoy the blog, and our shenanigans.
Update, 2022
Compared to the other profile picture above, taken in 2012, this is 2021. I look a little different, 40 pounds lighter, I suppose. And 11 yrs older!
A friend of mine was reading this blog and asked me "Why'd you stop writing? You should start the blog again. I miss it."
Social media kind of took the place of blogging for me, and Untappd is a nice thing where I can check in to a beer and not have to really make an effort to record the experience. But recording the experience is really nice.
So I revived the blog after moving to Maryland for work in 2017. Compared to 2011 when I was not employed, life made big changes, and I now have a big full time job.
My husband, son, and I are living in Montgomery County, north of Washington DC. The craft beer scene here has exploded over the past few years. There are tons of local breweries and places to visit.
MoCo is pretty awesome, but we also have visited places in Virginia and while traveling or on vacations, I try to log our visits. Reviving the blog here has been a good way for me to continue to exercise some writing and reviewing muscles.
My husband says "It keeps you out of trouble."
Speaking of my husband, oftentimes it is Shenanigans with Doug, or Shenanigans with Doug and Geoff, our son (age 25 as of this writing).
We sample each others' beers, so a lot of times when I'm writing about the beers on a site visit, it isn't as if I am drinking 9 beers. More like we order 9 beers as a group and try to never duplicate choices, unless they are that good.
While I miss the north shore of Boston and Southern NH (and the original Dave!) this is also an amazing place to live and enjoy local craft brewing and opportunities. Trying my best to get out there and taste what's great!
Follow me on Untappd if you like, let's be friends and toast each other.
